Volvo is the Swedish car manufacturer with a long-standing reputation for producing strong, safe and reliable motor cars.
In 2010, Volvo was bought by the giant Chinese motor conglomerate Geely Holding Group, and since then we have seen substantial investment into Volvo’s production. Not only is there a constant flow of exciting new products, but also an influx of major technology innovation taking place.
The current model line is the biggest ever, starting with the smart and affordable V40 models. The V60’s are available with plug-in hybrid engines, and the V90 Estates re-establish Volvo in a marketplace in which it was dominant a number of years ago. The XC90 is the highly regarded top of the line SUV, now available in plug in hybrid form. The new XC40 and XC60 Compact and Hybrid mid-sized SUV will broaden the appeal for this superb brand across many sectors.
The recent announcement that Volvo will, from 2019, only produce vehicles with electric motors is historic – perhaps marking the end of the combustion engine as we know it. Their Managing Director stated, “This is about the customer and we are responding to their current and future needs.”
Polestar originated as a racing team which worked on their own cars to help Volvo’s racing division win the Swedish Touring Car Championship in 1996. Finding success as a racing team, and bringing home plenty of wins for themselves and Volvo, Polestar decided to go public with their first real release of their S60 model in 2013. 2014 followed with the release of the Volvo S60 and V60 Polestar.
Volvo saw this as a great opportunity with long term potential, and outright purchased Polestar to bring them on as their personal performance division. At the core of Polestar’s engineering philosophy is to create an optimally safe, balanced, and reliable driving experience. Through a balance of performance and control, Polestar has succeeding in innovating and manufacturing vehicles that customers have come to love.
